Faery Folk - Part VIII - Jack-in-the-Green

by Gregory Christiano (Age: 70)
copyright 11-14-2003

Age Rating: 7 +

From the death of fall
To the decay of Winter
Jack-in-the-Green comes
To return us to Spring!

Covered with vegetation
Leafy and coiling round his head,
This green-man adorns
The wooden pews of churches.

Bindweed, ancient spirit,
Deep woodlands they call home,
Merry, carefree, souls,
Keeping Nature's laws.

They hide from men
In their wildwood lairs,
Revitalizing the season -
Coursing through the earth!

Did I ever tell you I love the images your words paint in my mind? Ah, but I must have! And I'm sure you know that you've inspired more than one poem in this fellow author. Thank you for the visual mental masterpieces, thank you for sharing your talent!
