Cuts and Scars

by Cortney Jaruzel (Age: 26)
copyright 12-14-2003

Age Rating: 13 +

Must I lie to keep my place,
To hide from the pain,
Of the fist from going across my face.

Do I need to know everything about life,
Could I just count my cuts and scars,
The ones filling my arms from the kitchen knife?

Are the bruises not enough to see,
Is the blood from my cuts,
Not hard to see?

Do my tears lead a stream,
A long river of endless pain,
‘til death I scream.

Must I smile just for today,
To wash away my dark tears,
And pretend it’s all okay?

Forever, counting away,
Counting cuts and scars,
I hate today…..
