Now, there was only one week left of school. Liddy had felt quite sad even then. However, she needed to be happy. In May, she had joined the tennis team. It brought her joy, and it improved her tennis game.

The Final Fling was coming up. It was the last dance in the school, and it was only for 8th graders. Liddy knew she would not be asked out, so she did not feel too disappointed. About two weeks in advance, Liddy bought a beautiful dress and shoes to wear. The dress was strapless. It was black up until the waist down. From there is was black and white stripes going diagonally. On the left side of the waist was a fake pink rose near six inches in diameter. Her shoes her spiked heels. They were black, and the heel was about two inches high. The straps of the shoes were black leather laces that criss crossed and tied around the ankles. She danced a bit, and talked with her friends. Unfortunately, she wished that she could have had even more fun. No one asked her to dance, and she felt a slight bit uncomfortable.

Ani never hung around with Liddy and her other friends much. She had an entirely different circle of friends besides Liddy. Her group of friends were considered to be the outkasts who seemed to get into trouble sexually. She had had friends who were pregnant! Despite these factors, Ani was not like that. She had never had a boyfriend, and would never consider having premarital sex. Though Ani did not go to church, she still had moral values in life.

At last, she was beginning to feel some exuberance in her heart. The slightest bit of joy was peeking through. But there was only one person who was brining her down…
