Top 10 Michael Peterson Books

Michael Peterson’s books are notable for their rich historical context. The author was condemned in 2001 for killing his second wife Kathleen Peterson. The trial revealed that he faked a car accident injury as a war injury, showing he did not win a Purple Heart for bravery in the war. After eight years of being incarcerated for Kathleen’s death, a new theory emerged, and the judge decided that an essential prosecution witness gave untrustworthy testimony, which did not allow Peterson to receive a fair trial.

In 2017, Michael Peterson shifted his plea to an Alford plea and was charged with the manslaughter of Kathleen Atwater Peterson in a new trial. As a result of the lesser charge, he was granted time served and released from custody.

Michael Peterson, a graduate of Duke University, wrote several notable books throughout his career as a writer, including “The Immortal Dragon,” which was published in 2002. Also, Peterson wrote the screenplay for the thriller film “Witness for the Prosecution,” based on Agatha Christie’s short story of the same name.

Peterson’s body of work reveals a multi-faceted author capable of traversing a wide range of genres and themes, from intimate personal reflections to broad societal commentaries. His books, characterized by intricate plots and compelling storytelling, demonstrate his ability to engage readers with both his life story and his imaginative narratives.

“Behind the Staircase”

His first-person narrative of being convicted for the heinous slaying of his spouse, Kathleen, who was discovered lifeless in a pool of her blood at the bottom of the steps of their home, is an authentic non-fiction account.

His saga is chronicled in this new book as he passes through the judicial system and spends time in prison, convicted of her homicide. His attorney Rudolf filed a MAR (Motion for Alternative Relief) to request a retrial in April 2011 – over seven years following his detainment.

The retrial was granted due to microscopic owl feathers found in Kathleen’s hair.

“A Time of War”

To uncover a resolution for the Vietnam War, President Johnson personally appoints esteemed war hero and diplomat Bradley Lawrence Marshall. On his mission in Vietnam, he meets with influential figures, such as General Westmoreland, who attempt to persuade him that the situation is well under control.

However, he also encounters individuals like his driver, Corporal Mead, a good yet brutal American man of uncertain sexuality who is fed up with the war; Lacouture, an ostentatious French person resembling Guy Burgess who sells data to everyone involved and adores Mead; and Wilson Abbot Lord, a clandestine CIA station chief whose sole intent is to combat Communism.

This is Michael Peterson’s first book.

“The Immortal Dragon”

Set in Southeast Asia during the mid-1800s, “The Immortal Dragon” chronicles France’s political and military incursion into Vietnam. While the native monarchy appeared unable to prevent this foreign invasion, readers will be riveted by this 19th-century saga of historical fiction about what took place in that tiny country.

When Prince Ahn Le is sent into the countryside, an opportunity arises for him to become a major leader of the resistance. On his educational journey with the Duke and Duchess of Parnasse, Andre Lafabre is exposed to a French protectorate where events begin to unfold rapidly – including his controversial offspring, Louis.

“Charlie Two Shoes and The Marines of Love Company”

This story explores the bond formed between a young Chinese boy named Charlie Tsui (Charlie Two Shoes) and a group of U.S. Marines stationed in northern China after World War II. The story unfolds as the Marines, part of Love Company, develop a deep friendship with Charlie, going beyond cultural and language barriers. Despite the Marines’ eventual departure, the impact of their camaraderie endures, with efforts to reconnect with Charlie years later during the political upheavals of China’s Cultural Revolution.

The book highlights themes of loyalty, friendship, and the enduring human connection across time and political divides.

“A Bitter Peace”

Bradley Marshall, the presidential envoy assigned to negotiate a peaceful resolution with honor in Vietnam, is faced with an impossible task that will haunt him for years afterward. “A Time of War II: A Bitter Peace” follows Peterson’s renowned classic and offers readers an insight into Marshall’s journey as he attempts this herculean mission.

An enthralling work of gripping insight and relentless suspense, this novel takes readers on an emotional journey as a man seeks redemption in a world full of uncertainties.

Despite other challenges that arise throughout their training week, he is determined to help them succeed.

Nevertheless, Bubba Brown is back with a vengeance against the Coach. Jeremy Johnson, who had started as part-time varsity manager earlier in the season, has other objectives to pursue, predominantly impressing head varsity manager Jennifer Kirby.
